Throne of Glass Series TV Show Reactions | What to expect?

AND ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!

The infamous Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is known to many many many readers worldwide. It's one of the most popular series to date and has taken the world by storm... literally. However, it has come to my attention that this wonderful series has fallen under a long list of other books that have been turned into TV shows and movies. On that list are other popular books and series such as The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.

I don't know what I'm more upset about, the fact that this wonderful series is being turned into a show or that it's only going to be on Hulu. Hulu?? Who uses Hulu? I'm not going to go out of my way to buy a Hulu account to watch one TV show.

Although one could argue that this series is finally getting the air time it deserves, I can't overlook the fact that most book to movie adaptations (not all) have destroyed books in the past. But if there's one thing I'm glad about, it's their decision to turn it into a TV show instead of a movie. Oh boy, what a disaster that would have been.

I can't deny that this is an incredible feat for Miss Sarah J Maas. It has proved how much work she's put into her writing and the production company saw great potential in a series that is backed by so many loyal fans. Well done! Before going into this post, please acknowledge that I am in no way hating on the author of the book series. This post is simply regarding the fact that my favorite book series is going to be turned into a TV show.

This GIF is literally most of the Throne of Glass fandom...

However, on the other hand, there have been some good turnouts...

It's hard to tell this early on whether Hulu will do Sarah J Maas' series justice. My main concern with the adaptation, in line with my concerns about the TMI TV show adaptation, is that they're taking quite a large series and condensing it. During the Shadowhunters season premiere, the entire fandom was shitting about how much they changed from the books. Of course, I know that the directors can't take exactly what's inside the book and translate it on the screen. Changes are necessary. We get that. I watched the first season of Shadowhunters and it was subpar, to say the least. Most of the show's focal point was its delicious cast of characters, rather than the plot and Clary's self-discovery. It would be an understatement to say that I didn't like it.

And maybe I'm comparing the TMI TV show adaptation to how their going to make the Throne of Glass one, but I can't help but have this irrational fear that they're going to destroy one of my favorite series of all time. Now, we haven't seen the casting yet but if there's one thing this announcement can do to redeem itself it would be through the casting. The cast will make or break the show. We've already seen how bad casting can go through Shadowhunters. They've got the two leading characters all wrong! Clary, or Katherine McNamara, is a real kicker but she adds no depth to the Clary Fray the fandom knows so well. We barely see any of the emotional baggage she's supposed to carry after she realizes her mom is in danger and she's a part of an ancient race that keeps demons from wreaking havoc on the human world. Jace, played by Dominic Sherwood, although very very very good looking, doesn't do the brooding and mysterious Shadowhunter justice at all. Did the directors and producers think they could just put teenagers in leather and skinny jeans and they'd magically become Shadowhunters?

The truth is... I'M TERRIFIED. I honestly think I have a right to be since Hollywood doesn't have a particularly great track record when it comes to adaptations. The TV show in the making has been titled 'Queen of Shadows'. All we know so far is that is has been picked up by the Mark Gordon Company, one I'm not familiar with. Kira Snyder, who is set to write the adaptation, gives me all the hope in the world to be happy about the show. Kira was the writer of 'The 100', one of my all-time favorite shows. I have no doubt that she'll do good on yet another action-packed series.

Things 'Queen of Shadows' Must Get Right To Appease the Fandom

  1. Casting - The casting of Celaena, Chaol and Dorian must be done right, down to the last detail. They must find that golden actress that can handle Celaena's snark without trying too hard or Chaol's indifference to Celaena without being too forced. They must find the actor with soft features and the kind face of Dorian, but still regal-looking.
  2. Portray Celaena's inner struggles - The assassin part of Celaena doesn't make up her entire character. That's one part of her life she can't change or fight. I don't want this show to turn into some YA love fest where the producers only care about getting the two characters together. I really want to see Celaena carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. From the death of Sam Cortland, the shit Arobynn put her through and to the year she spent in Endovier, I want to see the scarred and beat up person that Celaena is. I definitely think this is the most challenging part for the creators because the only way I can think of them sufficiently putting in Celaena's past is with the use of flashbacks. I have sort of a love hate relationship with flashbacks, especially in TV shows.
  3. World building - The immense world-building and creation of Erilea is 70% of what makes up the Throne of Glass series. I imagine vast open spaces with mountains, deserts, and jungles. They can't leave out the hint of magic that is in the atmosphere of the world. I expect most of their budget to be well-spent on world-building and sets.
  4. Wicked action scenes- The fandom loves how Maas never shows her characters mercy. The fight scenes are pretty brutal and the characters barely make it out alive in the book.
  5. And please please please don't change the plot on us!
So I may not be this show's number one supporter, but I can't not be excited about my favorite series coming to life. At this point, I can only presume from what I know about adaptations in the past. I'm ready to see Celaena and Chaol spar, Fleetfoot, Manon and ALL THE FREAKING FANCY-ASS DRESSES CELAENA IS GOING TO HAVE.

I wanna know, what are your thoughts?

TV Show Review: Scream Season 1 (NO SPOILERS)

Hey guys, wow I haven't done one of these TV show reviews in a while. I don't know why I haven't done one since I've been binge-watching a bunch of new shows. Today's post will cover Scream's season 1 on MTV.

First Impressions

When the show was first announced, there was a little sneak peek pilot episode floating around Youtube. I decided to sit down and preview MTV's new hottest show based off of the classic slasher film. I was expecting blood, spilling guts, jump scares, booze, drunk teenagers and sex. All MTV shows have some sex appeal, whether it be about teenage werewolves or masked serial killers.

I was also kind of concerned for the Scream franchise. It is one of the classic and most popular 90's slasher films out there. I mean you really can't have Halloween without at least one person wearing the infamous mask. I was scared that people would try too hard to compare this show to the original film, making it hard for the show to become a chart topper. What if it completely ruins the Scream franchise, making it a cheesy high school horror rom com? That was one of my biggest concerns.

My Thoughts

In terms of scare factor and cringe-worthy blood and gut scenes, the show did not fail in that department. I thought MTV would be very forgiving in how much blood they showed, but damn I couldn't close my eyes fast enough. This is coming from someone who lives for bloody horror flicks and books. I mean you probably hear the blood before anything else. WARNING: There are a ton of unpredictable squelching noises. Seriously, there were some graphic scenes that I didn't even know were allowed on television.

The best thing about this show? No one was safe! Just when you think the producers weren't going to kill off a character because they played too big of a role.... KABOOM... they're dead. And it's that aspect that I found to be most mind-blowing and admirable. The producers want you to care and create a relationship with the characters. They want you to smile when the cute couple you've been rooting for shares a kiss. They want you to get goosebumps when the main character starts to get mysterious phone calls from an unknown caller. But even when you begin to feel the slightest shred of feeling, someone dies right before your eyes. And you just can't believe it.

The season 1 finale is really something, but you'll never see it coming. NEVER, not from a million miles away. During the season you're wondering who could this killer be and every time you think of someone to pin the blame on, evidence pops up suggesting otherwise. The show leads you into thousands of different directions that you think might be the right one, but you don't know for sure.

I'm definitely impressed with how MTV created such deep character arcs. Even with Teen Wolf, MTV has a knack for making you hate and love the characters at different points in the season. They reveal something that is worthy of your admiration. But not soon enough do they take back your admiration and throw something at you that will make you despise who the characters have become.

My only quip would have to be how unnecessary some characters were to the show. I still to this day don't understand the role of Kieran in the entire story. You'll learn more about him in the first episode. I understand that he was a love interest but at the same time, what did he really add to the plot and our understanding of the killer's motives? Also what did Rachel have to do with ANYTHING?? (You'll find out who Rachel is later in the show)

Scream wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would be. There was actually a level of maturity that I found myself enjoying. The characters were not only tasked with finding this killer but they also had real high school, teenage problems between fixing relationships and friendships. I love that the show didn't shy away from the school aspect. We got a lot of scenes in their English class and in the hallways with interactions between the main characters and the rest of the school population. It felt genuine. I didn't feel like the main characters were the only ones in the school, you know? I mean, if you want cheesy (and obnoxious in my opinion, no hate :x) then you should just watch Scream Queens or something :P

Final Verdict

Have nothing to do on a stormy Friday evening? I suggest putting on Netflix and trying Scream. Once you've watched the first episode, you will be hooked. You'll want to know all the answers, but of course, there is the wait that comes with each episode. Even if you're not a fan of sexy, horror flicks, I'd recommend it because there is an aspect of relatable experiences that most teens face- hopefully not the running away from a serial killer part. a

I enjoyed the show enough to stick around for the second season, which has been on since late May.

Season 3 of The 100 Explained In GIFs [Spoiler Free]

The 100 is no stranger to the blogosphere. It's been talked about endlessly because of its wonderful adaptation from book to movie. On January 21st, the first episode of the third season premiered and Twitter exploded. The 21st was the week of my midterms so sadly, I couldn't participate in the fun live tweeting. Now I'm back at it and lemme just tell you, the show is better than ever!

**WARNING: This post may contain spoilers for the first and second seasons. Please read at your own risk**

The Handbook to Betrayals
I swear this show has more betrayed more people than The Burn Book from Mean Girls. Anyone else agree? It's survival of the fittest and everyone is looking behind their backs for themselves, not for you of the person next to you. It's all killed or be killed. You see? Even Clarke understands that!

Cry-worthy Reunions
Who doesn't love a sappy reunion? You guessed it! Clarke is coming back to raise a lot of hell.

Sexy action *eyebrow dance*
For some reason that's all humans would do if we ended up returning to Earth after 100 years. We love to see our favorite ships come together but sometimes these things just demand to be censored.

Hot shirtless doods x1,000,000,000,000
C'mon ladies, these are the best parts of any shows. Take off your shirt to practice combat? *sits down to watch* Don't mind if I do...

Explosions x100 *kaboom*
As if killing everyone at Mount Weather wasn't enough. There just have to be even more explosions and casualties!

The Adventures of Murphy and Thelonious
Murphy is stuck with Thelonious who is brainwashed by the city of light mumbo jumbo. Good luck Murphy because he's a total nut!

Octavia - a total badass
Octavia is one of my favorite characters in this show because she goes through so much character development. In season 3, she embraces the grounder side of her that's always been wanting to shine through. Go Octavia!

Jasper's new haircut and AWOL-ness
Jasper has been AWOL ever since Maya's death and look *points* he even got a new haircut (to look like a monk? Maybe). This isn't a gif but I couldn't find a gif with Jasper and his new hairdo.

New villain makes Elsa look less dangerous
And you thought Mount Weather was bad? Wait till you meet the new villain of The 100's season three, The Ice Nation. The Ice Nation is led by the Ice Queen, and no, not Elsa.

WANHEDA WANHEDA
Now that Clarke is seen as the legendary Wanheda, killer of the mountain crew, she's a force to be reckoned with. That's my girl!

DC Comics Taking TV By Storm

Over the past year or two, we've had a swarm of television series based on the oh-so popular and timeless DC Comics. We've seen Gotham, The Flash, Arrow and so many more in the works of amazing directors and producers who have snatched up these comics and turned them into worlds that these real characters can actually live in. While these shows have become wildly popular over time, the audience and critics can't help but think what's in store for the future of the DC Comics? Is television going to be taken over by them?

Are you familiar with...

And these are just a few show off a list of many that were originally DC Comics and have been turned into TV shows starring real live actors. The ones listed have been hitting the bank hard as they successfully bring new viewers in. It's the actors and the directors that make the real magic, but it's also because of the foundation that DC has laid for the creation of these shows. Some would say, they are bringing more attention to the comics than there ever was.

Let's take The Flash for example. Although incredibly cliche and weird when it comes to superpowers, this show isn't a bunch of blab that was sent out into modern television. No, no. The show contains more than just a guy in a tight red suit that can run hella fast, no we're talking about science and other schematics. Things you've never even heard of are mentioned in this show. If you're a nerd, well you better sit down and buckle up because you're in for a real ride. The show takes place after a particle accelator explodes in Central City and gives ordinary people these extraordinary powers, including Barry Allen, a detective that works for the CSI and is super hot (if I must say so myself). The explosion gives Allen the power of speed and makes him really really fast. With these powers and the gang at S.T.A.R labs as they help him recover and learn about his ability, he takes crime by the balls in Central City and shows those criminals who want to cause trouble whose boss. The show is filled with pit falls, action scenes, violent criminal masses, and the whole lot of all you'd expect in a high-action hero TV show.

You could say I've taken a short hiatus from school and other super annoying tendencies, to enjoy a nice hot cup of joe and binge-watch the first season of The Flash like a crazy Netflixer. I have not been disappointed in DC Comic TV Shows thus far, as I am a series regular of The Flash and Arrow. These shows are amazing and engrossing. You can't stream Netflix and just one episode without watching four others in turn.

It's not that these DC Comic-turned shows are the only things on the network that have been receiving high ratings in the polls, but they have been doing extremely well in the long run and seem to be going pretty far with Arrow returning for its fourth season and The Flash coming in with a second season, which I'm extremely overexcited for. Flash has been hitting a 10-week high and winning its hour with a lot of teen and younger viewers who were fans of the original comics. In fact, the show drew in more viewers under 35 than The Voice for the first time! You can definitely say that the CW and other networks that are broadcasting these DC Comic shows are getting the bang for their bucks! It's all been worth it.

Not to mention the utter hotness that makes its way into our television screens. God, these DC Comic heroes can't get any hotter, can they? Let's look at the photo montage for evidence...

the left: Grant Gustin in his role as Barry Allen of The Flash, the right: Stephen Amell in his role as Oliver Queen or Arrow of Arrow

Rumors are that The CW is even trying to get in another DC Comics show to propell the ratings to even further. The real question is though... who will be the next chosen character from the comics? I, myself, who isn't a big comic book reader, am not familiar with the characters so tell me what you guys think if you are a comic-book buff!

Are these comic-book based shows taking over telelvision? It seems to me that they are extremely popular and roll the money in so why would networks hesitate to make more? What else will come and what are viewers expecting? Well, I'd love to know.

Teen Wolf First Impressions + Reactions

Unlike every other crazy teenager in the world, I have not yet watched Teen Wolf. I've considered it, twice actually. It just doesn't intrigue me enough to actually get moving along with it, you know what I mean? When a show that everyone loves doesn't intrigue you. That's the worst feeling. Instead of doing a review, I'm doing something a little bit different. These are my first impressions on the TV show Teen Wolf.

The Name. Sorry, but the name Teen Wolf doesn't emulate maturity to me. It sounds like a cliche teenage romance between werewolves. Also doesn't it sound like the people who created the title were having a hard time coming up with it and they just got lazy at the last second. So they took the main supernatural creature of the movie, which are werewolves and smacked it behind a teen because there are teenagers! To say that this is what made me stay away from the show the longest would be a total understatement. Just imagine Teen Wolf as a booger, and there's me trying not to touch it or have anything to do with it. Yeah, I'm trying to be funny because who doesn't love a review with a little bit of sick humor! Why couldn't they have came up with a much cooler name like Bitten or Claws! Okay, maybe those weren't that creative but the title-maker-uppers know exactly what I'm talking about.

Werewolves, really? I've had many bad experiences with werewolves. First the makeup and then the actual growling. I mean if you can't do it as well as the werewolves in the movie Van Helsing, might as well not try at all! You movie buffs know what I'm talking about! I like scary werewolves, not the fake kind that look like a mix of a demon and a bear. I was skeptical about going into a teenage werewolf movie because I had no idea what the makeup and effects of the werewolves would look like.

Ship Names. Going into this show, I was bombarded with ship names. Excuse me, it sounds like there are love triangles. No, no, no I'm not getting caught up in that! To name a few: Stydia, Scallison (what even?), Sciles (haha I get it). I don't like when a show is just associated and distinguished by its ship names.

1 month later...

So I've watched four season and wow...

Umm, this is a little embarrassing. Just disregard everything I said up there because I think I've found my new favorite TV show. I think you guys all knew this was going to happen!! It was inevitable. I was lured in and snapped into the trap. Oh but anyways, let's get into my reactions!

Turns out this show is lot more than teeth and claws. This is strictly a paranormal/supernatural show entailing many supernatural creatures that make appearances. There are werewolf, druids, and even banshees. I thought the dynamic of having a reason for why the characters were what they were was really awesome. There was a good amount of background information and mythology and history. At some points in some of the episodes, I found myself nodding when something new was revealed or a problem was solved. That feeling was just so satisfying.

Our characters all have their own personalities. No two are alike in any way. There's Scott, who is the loyal one and is turned into a werewolf in the second part of the pilot episode. This changes him from quiet and shy Scott McCall who was never noticed to popular player on the lacrosse team whose name everybody knows. Stiles was one of my favorite characters in this show, being the sidekick and all. He could be so sarcastic and humorous at times and I feel like we're missing the sarcastic types in TV/media today. It was a great and refreshing thing to see! The female roles were played by beautiful and strong young woman.

The romance was cute and so serious.... geez. There was a little bit of forbidden romance and lost love for some of the characters. Along with romance there was also a lot of character death. I don't think I have enough fingers to count how many characters have died so far. Teen Wolf, you win the award for most character deaths! Yeah, but how and when they died really played well into the show.

So are you late on the Teen Wolf express? Don't worry, you can still get a ride and it's never too late to join in. I know I'm not sorry for binge-watching it!

TV Show Review: Daredevil

It's another TV show review.... Gash I'm super excited to share this one with you all because when I first watched it, I had no idea I was going to love it as much as I do! Due to popular debate, there have been some mixed thoughts and opinions, but I figured it was time to put my review skills to the test and give my honest and full thoughts about this show.

But first let me....

Say thanks to all of the bloggers, friends, and people who told me to watch this show from the start and commented on my blog post about the shows I wanted to watch. I took your advice, as I always do because I trust you folks, believe it or not. I should really take your guys' advice more often.

Daredevil follows the plot of young Matt Murdoch and starts off when he pushes a man out of the street from an incoming truck accident. The truck drops its cargo on Matt, which actually turns out to be radioactive chemicals leaving poor little Matt blind. Not only is he blind, but the chemicals actually grant him these heightened senses where he doesn't even need his eyes to see because his other senses do the job just fine. He can do extremely cool and weird things like smell a cigarette from a block away, tell you how many days you haven't watched your hair, and hear conversations from far away that aren't supposed to be heard. As he grows up and becomes a man his abilities grow as well and he realizes that with these new powers, he can do great things and bring people to justice. He becomes the "masked man", a crime-fighting attorney of the law by day and a masked vigilante by night.

Likes
  • Let me be frank and say that I will love any MARVEL production and have a soft spot for them in my heart. I particularly enjoy how they're based off of comics.
  • Daredevil is such a unique show because we've never seen a TV show where the main character is a kick-butt superhero and yet he's blind!! His abilities didn't make much sense to me at first but I soon got to understand and love his character.
  • Charlie Cox, playing Matt Murdoch, actually played as Tristan in Neil Gaiman's adaptation of Stardust.
  • The best action and fighting scenes just like the ones in the Avengers movie. I swear, it's so comparable and similarly awesome!
  • As always, the hot main star, Matt Murdoch. He's just so mysterious and intriguing. *whispers* Plus the producers like to show a lot of abs (just saying...)
Flaws
I didn't want to say dislikes because there was really nothing I disliked about the show.
  • Each episode runs for 1-hour. It's kind of longer than most TV shows on the network but I would expect nothing less from an action MARVEL thriller.
  • Love is not prevalent. Sorry ladies (and men). If you're looking for a romantic action show with a lot of making out and chilling in bed, this might not be the show for you. This show is more focused on other things like revenge, morals, justice, and the law.
  • PERSONAL OPINION: I just hated the protagonist haha...
Yay or nay?

Hell freaking yes! (Sorry for all my curses lately. I'm a teenager girl who learns from the world around her lmfao). This is a show you should be keeping your eye on, ladies and gentlemen. And if you haven't started it, what are you waiting for? I've given tons of advice for TV shows and books, maybe enough to say you can trust me on this, okie? Thanks for reading, and I really hope you love this show as much as I do.

TV Shows That Should Be Uncancelled

There are a bunch of TV shows that have been cancelled over the years. R.I.P to many of their fandoms and the people that totally worshiped the shows until they were cancelled. Personally, I feel it unfair for TV shows to be cancelled because it shatters the fans that adore it. I was completely shattered when some of my fav shows were announced to be cancelled. Ahem, ahem THE CW, who is notorious for cancelling shows over time!

1. The Secret Circle

2. Helix
An interesting case indeed. If you guys didn't know, I raved about this show on my review and said it was the "best horror/gore-filled TV show" I ever saw! Helix was renewed for season 2, but 2 seasons are all this show is going to get in the meantime, as it has just been cancelled. It is not being renewed for a 3rd season because there are just not enough people watching, and the movie takes a lot of $ to put together.

3. Resurrection
A TV show about people being mysteriously resurrected from their graves by an enigmatic source, doesn't that intrigue you beyond belief? Doesn't it make you want to find out why all these people are being resurrected? I was dying to find out until it was cancelled, and I just put on my derp face and cursed the producers.

4. The Carrie Diaries
I need this light chick-lit to wash away the reality of my life. I thought it was doing fine and at the time, it had a stable amount of fans to keep it going. I actually have no idea why it was cancelled but nonetheless, it should be renewed for fans of lighthearted chick-lits.

5. Revenge
Emily Thorne was given 4 season to get revenge on the people that framed and killed her father. 4 seasons is not bad AT ALL. 4 seasons is actually rare for a show with this type of story line and plot. After watching a few seasons, I think it definitely should have gone on for longer because of how much was missing from the potential twists and story.

6. Star-Crossed
My review highlighted the greatest parts of this show, along with my never-ending anger to why it was cancelled only after one season. This show followed a group of aliens that come down to earth, and the humans decide to integrate them into the population in hope that they can coexist and share their ideas and cultures. Of course, we always have those who agree with the transition and those that are angered by the possibility of allowing aliens to live among humans. My thoughts can be found in the review link here, but basically if you haven't watched it, watch it!!

7. Being Human
I didn't do full and in-depth review, which I really should, but I consider this one of the best vampire and supernatural TV shows to have ever hit the network. The show is hilarious, sexy, and filled with so much more potential if only it was given one more season. Yes, this show stopped after one season. OMG and that season 1 ending, what the hell. The producers literally threw a bomb in my heart and left me for dead.

Were any of your favorite TV shows cancelled?
