Books That Shouldn't Be Turned Into Movies

Please.

Dont  touch  these books, producers and directors!
There are always books that are being adapted into films nowadays. I don't disagree with most that are being turned into movies but there are some novels or series that just wouldn't fit into a movie or TV show. It's not simply because "books are better than the existing adaptations" but mainly because the books have long shown its readers a powerful message and engrossing writing style that a movie can't replicate.

The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven Cycle series is a well-known series among the blogosphere community with its powerful writing style and a wonderful cast of characters that work so well together and yet have their noticeable differences. The world is very ethereal and rich and weirdly, only imaginable when thought about and not drawn out before someone's eyes. Does anyone else agree? Maggie Stiefvater's worlds cannot be explained, or at the very least, shown on the big screen. It's something that her readers have a personal connection to and if the media and network were to create a whole franchise around this series, it would ruin that magical and special essence.

Also, how does one portray the wonderful character of Blue? Someone please tell me because she is perfection, and I don't know one actress that would get her point across perfectly. Please Maggie Stiefvater, don't sell the rights to produce this series!

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Ready Player One is an absolutely crazy book that takes place in society years and years into the future when reality really sucks and people would rather have their minds plugged into a virtual reality-like game called, The Oasis. The creator of the Oasis dies and in his will, leaves a bunch of clues leading up to finding a easter egg hidden in his own game. The winner who finds the egg gets the creative rights to his game and his entire fortune.

Because this book is so immersed in the idea of 1980's pop culture and media, it would be pretty difficult to get all the rights to the different films, games, and books that were mentioned in this book. I also think that the transition between reality and virtual reality would be very hard to show viewers on the big screen because I don't think it's something that's been done before. I would very much like to see someone try though!

The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

Honestly... the Percy Jackson movies just really ruined it for me. I believe, and this is my own personal theory, that Rick's books are so alive and energetic. It's so hard to contain that buzzing ball of energy into a 2-hour film, or however long movies go on to. It's crazy how much of a quarrel I had with the PJ movies. I just didn't like them. I thought the concepts were pushed around and made too cheesy and the effects to look really immature and stupid.

Leave Magnus Chase as he is as one of this generation's finest bookish heroes. Don't tarnish the story and create this whole franchise like you did to Percy Jackson D:

Any of Rainbow Rowell's books!

Rainbow's books are just too contemporary for the big screen. Maybe Fangirl would make a good film but all her other novels are so romantic and beautiful and it's hard to get that on-screen kind of love from the characters. I also think her books resemble real life relationships and couples, and on-screen acting/romance would kind of kill the whole authenticity.

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

Ya'll are probably wondering what the heck this is doing on my list. It's my favorite series and it would be wrong of me to not want this to become a movie so I can experience it physically! But no...

Because this series has grown in name over the past few years, I feel like the movie would destroy everyone's entire perspective on the series and well-crafted story line and plot. Sure you can dream cast and imagine whoever you want for the cast but if they were to cast someone you didn't like, for example, there would be a total uproar and a ton of fans would bring it out on Maas or event the producers. This series is too big (literally), too grand to turn it into something as a movie or TV show. Does anyone else agree? It's okay if you don't!

Most Books About Disabilities

Ah disabilities. Such a beautiful topic/genre in YA nowadays. Books about disabled characters are being stunningly well done. They have exceeded many's expectations in portraying a character who is hindered by either a mental or physical obstacle. If a producer were to turn one of these books into a movie, they would either need to have experience with a disabled person or really cast a disabled person because then it would also lose its authenticity. When you're reading it, it's very real and in the moment. You feel like you're connecting with the character in such an intimate way. The only movie with a disabled character I was actually proud of was The Fault In Our Stars. Does that count as disabled characters?

To All The Boys I've Loved Before Duology by Jenny Han

I feel like the castings for this duology is going to be brutal. Sure, the story would make a beautiful movie! But I'm pretty sure hardcore fans of this duology are waiting for the perfect casting. Yes, there is a beautiful model on the cover that fits most people's vision of Lara Jean, but we don't even know if she can act. OMG And I've seen over 100 fan castings of Peter and even I don't know which one I would prefer. Plus, there are also some castings I disagree with 100%. You see the struggles producers have to go through?

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

Funny, huh? It's already been turned into a movie, and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I really didn't understand the need for a TV show franchise, and I still don't. And especially, why did they have to change the case for the TV show? THAT I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE LILY COLLINS IS BAE AF! I can't agree with the TV show because it's already being made, but I do not believe it's going to last very long. No hate to the awesome sauce TMI series and Cassandra Clare <3 nbsp="" p="">

  1. I don't think Raven Boys would translate into good movies/TV shows either.

I heard that Throne of Glass got optioned for a TV show. But I totally agree that it should just stay a book series.

I wasn't overly fond of 90% of the casting for the movie of TMI. The casting for Simon was the only one that I liked, everyone else was just okay for me. I'm willing to give the Shadowhunters show a chance. I am cautiously optimistic, since I like this cast better. We'll just have to see how it goes, and if it goes poorly, we'll always have the books. :)

The rest of the books, I haven't read.

  3. I really want a Throne of Glass tv show though lol. I just wish Hollywood would stop doing movies and then making the last book in the series into two movies. Unless it's like Harry Potter and actually needs it. Lol.

  4. I definitely don't think Throne of Glass should become a movie. The story is too complex to put into anything but words! They would cut out so much if it became a movie, and it would leave a lot of people feeling unsatisfied with the lack of content in the movie. Better to stick to books, where we get all the details!

    1. I'm so glad you agree. Yes,we need to preserve that awesome series. And I'm pretty sure that they would totally pick someone to play Chaol that I didn't like!!

  5. I agree with this list so much! I would hate to see TATBILB made into a film, because it's just such a cute book, and I think it just wouldn't be done well. Though sadly Ready Player One is being made into a film! I think filming is set to start in 2016? I'm not really sure, but I am disappointed. Thank-you for sharing this, Alexandria ♥

    1. After I wrote this post, I actually searched up if any of these books were being made into a movie. Yeah I'm pretty sad that RP1 is going to be a movie. I read the book recently and loved it so freaking much, and I'll be so angry if they make it look so bad!

  6. Great post! I 100% agree re: The Raven Cycle -- that should not be touched! The writing is too amazing and descriptive to be done justice! That being said, I would kind of like to see a TATBILB/PSISLY movie! It could be pretty cute!!

    1. It is cute and I feel like it would make me swoon as if in TFIOS. But I'm just afraid of the casting. You get where I'm coming from? Thanks for reading!

  7. I agree with TMI! I really love how Jamily truly has the chemistry to potrays Clace, because they're couple in real life<33 And I really like the movie cast better than the TV Show. I was really waiting for that Malec moment in CoA, but sadly now it'll never happened :(
Actually, I kind of hate this trend of "book-to-movie-adaptations". It's like the film industry can't came up with new ideas so they're like "whatever, we'll see what book is trending and make a movie of it".

    1. That's a really great point that you make. I really like that! Yes I've always agreed but didn't really know how to put that in words. It seems as if today all movies are adaptations, some are just done better than others.
