I friggin love this series! I LOOVEEEE ITTTT!

The second book in the Divergent series, Insurgent, really surprised me to the point where I was left in awe at the end. This book had me in tears and just in a fit of fistful seizures and meltdowns. WHAT IS WITH THESE DAMN PLOT TWISTS!!! And believe it or not it took more than just sheer force and willpower to sit down and write this review because I cannot explain in words how emotional and life changing this series has been so far.

This book picks off right where the first book ends, where Tobias, Tris, Marcus, and Peter are on the train leaving to find their new home not that they are technically factionless. We get a short recap of these events when the book starts off, which I think was totally needed because I needed to be reminded of what happened.

I extremely liked the romance between Tris and Tobias. The Tris and Tobias ship is probably one of the strongest I've ever encountered. Obviously their relationship was stronger in this book than in the first one, but we really saw Tobias open himself up more to her and reveal his love. I personally ship the pair and how could I not?

One of the reasons this book is not going to get it's 5 star rating is because of the characters! I mean, Tris couldn't get more frustrating than she was in Insurgent. She lied, not just several times but numerous times, to Tobias and to even her own faction. While I was reading this book I kept getting pissed off at how stubborn Tris was and the fact that she wanted to be the hero constantly, trying to destroy herself. I think Veronica Roth went a little bit extreme on Tris' character in the second book, constantly forgetting that she too has limitations in the society.

I liked how the author set up the story in this book. The story in this book was much more entertaining than the first book, I must say, but that doesn't make up for the really annoying characters and the slow-paced beginning that almost made me fall asleep.

I didn't like how slow the beginning was. When writing the next book in a series, I know how important it is for all authors to reintroduce the world to either returning readers or new readers that have never been associated with the world. I felt that the beginning of Insurgent was full of information-dumps that weren't needed to retell the main idea of the story and the series as a whole.

I liked the action scenes in this story. In Divergent, I understand how the author had to take the first book and start introducing us to the world and the characters. In the second book's case, we already know enough about the world to dive into the story and the conflict. I felt like most of the chapters in the book were filled with action, and that's what mainly lured me to keep reading. It was a phenomenal sequel.

It was obvious that the majority of the meat of the story took place in this book. We have multiple signs of character development and a huge climax that will leave you questioning Tris' loyalties. Veronica Roth's writing style is captivating and highly addictive. Don't expect yourself to just stop at the first book and forget about the rest of the trilogy. I find myself loving the language she uses and the characters even more with each book I read. I'm sure I will find Allegiant to be even more entertaining but in the meantime, I'm not sure where my feelings are for this book. But, all in all, definitely a series you guys have to check out!

  2. Everyone seems to adore this series so I think I'm going to have to try it out pretty soon. I think Divergent is in my library so once I've read a few of the books I got for Christmas I'll probably give it a go.

  3. This is one of my favorite series! I love the romance between Tris and Four. It is so simple and sweet. Unlike most YA romances, it does not focus on kissing and stuff like that. If you thought Insurgent was a roller-coaster, then you should definitely belt up for Allegiant! I cannot wait for your review!
