Anxiety-ridden New York investment banker, Cara Collins, has little to smile about her on 27th birthday between a hostile work environment and her impossible romantic situation with her longtime friend and first love, Dr. Kai Solomon. But before the day ends, she learns she has inherited $50 million- a windfall that must remain secret or risk the lives of those close to her.

As Cara unravels the truth surrounding her inheritance, she makes a startling discovery: angels walk among the living, and they're getting ready to engage in a battle that will determine the future of the human race. In the midst of these revelations, she meets mysterious and sophisticated Simon Young, who offers her the promise of romance for the first time since Kai.

But when Kai and his daughter are kidnapped by dark forces, Cara must choose: accept her place in a 2,000-year-old prophecy foretold in the Trinity Stones as the First of the Twelve who will lead the final battle between good and evil... or risk losing everything she holds dear. In doing so, she realizes it's not just her heart, but rather her destiny, that is entwined with the two men in her life.

**I received a free copy of this book from TLC Book Tours in exchange for a full and honest review**

This book heavily reminded me of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument and Infernal Devices series. There are the same concepts that appear to show up throughout the book like the Nephilim and the concept of demons. The book takes place in New York, where a girl named Cara Collins lives with her diminishing love life and, of course, her hidden power. I thought it was really interesting that this book was set in somewhere so close to home. And while I was reading this book, familiar bells were ringing inside my head. I literally imagined myself in the book with Chamuel and Cara. I think probably the best way to describe this book is with a compliment sandwich.

Liked the different points of views in the book. Each chapter in the book switched with a new point of view. I think we got one from each character, but there was mostly a variety of perspectives. And we got one from both the antagonist and protagonist! Awww.. it was so beautiful and unique!

Disliked the information download parts. Sometimes fantasy novels have a tendency of creating and building a new world. When authors attempt to build onto a world that has already existed, they have to make sure they execute it correctly and introduce the information in slow and spread-out increments. I think one of the big problems I had with this book were the parts where the author decided to spill out most of the information at once. At first, I felt like it was too much for me. I said to myself, I'm not going to remember any of this in the future.

Liked the romance. It was steamy and everything you'd expect in a YA romance. There was a love triangle, and I hate love triangles. But I really did love the intensity of it. It made the story all the more enjoyable.

I think this compliment sandwich really worked! I enjoyed most of the aspects of this book and thought it was generally masterly written. This book is quite long, and it took me a long while to read it. It had a good premise, and I was hooked in the beginning. I feel like we're going to be seeing a fairly large series forming from this book. The first book felt somewhat incomplete, and for all the good reasons. I can't wait to start the second book, even though I've heard it's a little bit more different than the first book. I'll catch you guys tomorrow with another review, perhaps. Have a wonderful day!
