Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.
The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is- although he doesn't know it- one of the MC's programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family? Action- packed, blood-soaked, and chilling, this is a dark and compelling debut novel by Lindsay Cummings.

"Kill.
Destroy.
No escaping.
No turning back.
This is what we must do to survive.
Purge the Earth.
This is the Murder Complex."

I'm gonna promise right now for a spoiler free review because I always end up putting in spoilers. Sorry if it spoiled the experience for anyone in the past.

Lindsay Cummings, a world building extraordinaire! When I first read the synopsis of the book, it said that it took place in a world where "the death rate is higher than the birth rate". I actually had trouble imagining that... but then I read the book and OMG. I saw the world through Lindsay's eyes, so to speak. It was definitely really different for me because normally I don't read many YA's that deal with death and assassination. Nowadays, YA dystopians are filled with cute romances and that sort of stuff.

Fifteen-year-old Meadow will do about anything to keep her family safe and healthy, especially her younger sister Peri. But with rations running low and the hardships of getting a job, how can Meadow keep up? It's not until she passes a test to please the Initiative, does she get the job she deserves. She will not think twice about questioning authority because in this world, it's killed or be killed. On the other hand, Zephyr James has no problem with killing, in fact, he's grown up killing people. The Murder Complex tells the extraordinary tale of two very different people.

For all you YA dystopian lovers out there, you're gonna love this book, however, this was much much darker than most of the things I usually read. Yes, the characters. Let's talk about the characters! Meadow, our main female protag and heroine, is the shining star of this book. And normally, I would be swooning over the male characters. I didn't find any of the characters to be annoying or in the way of the plot, which most likely happens *ahem ahem*. But damn Meadow was just a freaking ninja, a hot ninja. She could chuck a dagger without turning a head! Our lead love interest, Zephyr, was kind of a wussy, but I still really enjoyed him.

I feel like the plot of this book is really hard to establish, since it's nothing that's relatable. But Lindsay Cummings really nailed it there. My guess is, she has a truly active imagination. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us :D In this futuristic YA dystopian debut, I have no problem with recommending this book to everyone out there! It was simply amazing, and I'm in awe. A really really easy 5 star book. The plot was stimulating, the action was chilling, and the characters were swoon-worthy. What's not to love?!? *sigh* I just finished the book. Now... where's the second one?

I know you all hate plot twists... this major one is going to kill you!
