Synopsis:
Pearl is a sixteen-year-old vampire... fond of blood, allergic to sunlight, and mostly evil until the night a sparkly unicorn stabs her through the heart with his horn. Oops.
Her family thinks she was attacked by a vampire hunter (because, obviously, unicorns don't exist), and they're shocked she survived. They're even more shocked when Pearl discovers she can now withstand the sun. But they quikcly find a way to make use of her new talent. The Vampire King of England has chosen Pearl's family to host his feast. If Pearl enrolls in high school, she can make lots of human friends and lure them to the King's feast-- as the entrees.
The only problem? Pearl's starting to feel the twinges of a conscience. How can she serve up her new friends- especially the cute guy who makes her fangs ache- to be slaughtered? Then again, she's definitely dead if she lets down her family. What's a sunlight-loving vamp to do?
This book promised unicorns, and boy, did I get unicorns. In fact, I think I got too much unicorn! At first when the unicorn appeared in front of Pearl, I was like “wow! Where did the unicorn come from?” When Pearl was stabbed, I thought there was going to be blood and gore and… rainbows? Well, I didn’t get any of that. And that’s what I loved so much about this book! That although it may just look like any other stereotypical vampire book, it was not. This book was unique.
In the beginning of the book, Pearl was a blood-sucking, unrepentant character. But then, she was stabbed by the unicorn and suddenly she felt bad about serving her new friends to her family (and the vampire king of England) on a silver platter. I mean, the transition alone was something beautiful and amusing. When her family was invited to host the Vampire King of England’s feast, Pearl was expected to enroll in high school to make friends so that she could lure them into becoming the main meal. But Pearl became a vampire like no other after being stabbed by that unicorn… she was immune to sunlight and she was able to see her reflection. Were these weird symptoms the only thing keeping her alive, or were they something else entirely? Her whole world changed and everything she was taught by her parents, suddenly had a new meaning. This book mainly displayed Pearl’s transition as a vampire entering high school like any ordinary human being.
I thought this book was right up my alley. Over the years, I’ve learned to love vampires. But can you love vampires and unicorns at the same time?!? The story line was uniquely put together and gave the book its insightful humor. The romance was light, which was the way I liked it. I mean when you think of vampire books, the first things that come to mind are romance, love, blah blah blah. But like I said before, this is no ordinary book. Speaking about the romance, she evidently fell for the male protagonist known as Evan. Yes, she broke up with her vampire boyfriend, Jadrien.
The year 2014 is really hitting it off as one of my best years yet! I have read so many amazing books, met some fascinating authors, and I have started learning about the blogging world. This teen vampire book is a must-read that will literally stake your heart! Without further ado, let us get on with the character analysis.
Character Analysis
Pearl- Pearl was hands down, my favorite character. She was perky and so full of life (LOL because she is a vampire… she is dead)! You know sometimes, I wish I could just be like her and enjoy the sunlight for once instead of being huddled up against my computer all day. It was really different to see a vampire walk out into the sunlight.

Evan- The book didn’t talk much about his appearance but from Pearl’s swooning, I could totally infer that he was… H-O-T hot! I would’ve liked to see more of him throughout the book. I felt like to got more Jadrien than Evan.
Bethany- In the end, I kind of liked her more than I did in the beginning. In the beginning, I just felt like she was an annoying character. But in the end… she was just like punch, kick flippity, flapping awesome.
