Genre: YA Fantasy
"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached. It puts this entire castle in jeopardy- and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilanltly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above the questioning her allegiances- not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Caption of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decided once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

** SPOILER ALERT, TAKE CARE WITH CAUTION**

I know I like just finished Throne of Glass, but I couldn't help reading the second one right away! Sarah J. Maas starts the second book right where we left off in the first book: Celaena winning the title of King's Champion and now is a living and breathing slave of the King. If you haven't read the first book in the series, don't miss out on my review here! You must beware that there are going to be a lot of spoilers and fangirling (and feelings) in this review.

Why was this sequel 100x better than the first book in the series? Like there was such a dramatic difference in the amount of action we got in this book than in the first one. I didn't want it to end up like this but that is what it has come to! So in Crown of Midnight, main protagonist Celaena Sardothien is faced with even more crap. And by crap I mean a crapload of utter heartbreak and disaster. In the first book I kind of thought her to be a little more arrogant and cocky. She was this ultimate character who basically had like no flaws and was just the perfect assassin. In Crown of Midnight, we were really introduced to the softer and hellish side of Celaena. And that really intrigued me! We were able to see her faults, we were able to see through her thick skin. And I believe that's what makes up good characters: flaws and mistakes that will be fixed over time. Celaena really was the Mockingjay of the story (thumbs up if you get my analogy)!!!

My OTP ended up disappointing me in the end when Celaena was cast away to Wendlyn to kill the king and also obliterate any rebellion that the King's has been suspicious of. I'm not confident in saying I was always rooting for Chaol and Celaena, but the book definitely made me aware of their growing relationship. And Chaol was such a douchebag. It's like those male characters that don't fight for their girl and you end up punching yourself in the face. That's probably one of the things I hated most about the book.

After ten long years, Celaena looked at Chaol and realized she was home.

But other than that it was a well-crafted masterpiece! And I really can't say anything more but to read this damn series before it's too late (which it never will be). I really think Crown of Midnight has just kicked all the books in my top ten book list and is now sitting at the top of the world. It was more action-packed than the first and left me wanting to find out what eventually happens to Celaena in the beginning of the third book in the series.

From all the reviews I've been seeing on Goodreads and Amazon, a lot of people seemed to have really liked the second book more than the first, and I couldn't agree more. Somehow, someway Sarah J. Maas just let her soul out into this book. And we really got a taste of the "assassin lifestyle". It should come to no surprise that I'm giving this book a higher rating than I gave the first book.
