Title: The Truth About Forever
Author: Sarah Dessen
Pages: 374 pages
Overall Rating: 3/5- You can pass on this one.

Synopsis
A long, hot summer...

That's what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy's father.

But sometimes, unexpected things can happen- things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach home, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, is it really better to be safe than sorry?

Being that this is one of my first Sarah Dessen, I had some really high expectations for this book. The romance, the humor, and the excitement. How can it get any better? I was hesitant about reading this book for a long while now and well, I guess it was really a matter of making it to the end. Sadly after finishing the book, I have concluded that Sarah Dessen's books aren't really anything special. Please don't hate me or call me ignorant and remember, this is an opinionated review. Don't get me wrong: Her book was good and superbly written. I have nothing to say against her kick-butt writing skills. But... She didn't really have such an original plot and at times, there seemed like the story was missing a plot altogether. It was kind of like writing something and making it up as you went along. Nonetheless, I loved the heartfelt romance, the tragic breakups, and the sappy deaths. It  was a creative bundle all wrapped up into one amazing book. Will I ever read another Sarah Dessen book? Probably not, but I am willing to try just for you guys! However, the ending to this book was simply beautiful and AMAZING... I was crying and laughing at the same time because in the end, Macy had found her forever.
Usually romance stories don't run through well with me. I'm very picky when it comes to romance. Yes, because it's all about personal preference. No love triangles. No sad ending. However... Sarah Dessen had a weird way of making me enjoy this little romance novel. Romance is a huge thing nowadays in books and if you just can't do it right, don't do it at all.
That is all to be said of this book. Sarah Dessen has a fantastic way of getting to her writers through her writing. I was quite touched by this book. I also forgot to mention how much I loved the cover of this book. The simplicity and elegance made me smile :D
Now without further ado, let us get on with the character analysis.

Character Analysis:
Macy- She was a very lonely character and at times, I felt pity for her. She had a boyfriend who could care less about her well-belling, a depressing job at the library, and let's not forget that she had to live with losing her dad for about a year and a half already. But... her life was suddenly turned upside down when she starts catering at Wish and meets the hunky, Wes.

Wes- I was like totally "sawooning" over this boy! He was all macho macho and stylish and unimaginably hot! And unlike someone we know (Jason), he treated Macy right!

Jason- When you have a girlfriend, it's best not to neglect her or make her feel left out. Tell that to our next character, Jason. Macy totally deserved better than this gimp (excuse my language). All of a sudden, he dumped Macy out of the blue because she was getting too serious. I mean come on, go suck a thumb! Like, am I seriously the only one who didn't get his reason for dumping her?

Regardless of if you liked this very very very opinionated review or not, I would recommend checking out the author, Sarah Dessen. Honestly, you should give her a chance and decide your feelings on this book!

  1. Sarah Dessen is a great author and she really has you rooting for the title character :) I think it was last year that I started reading her books, I can't quite remember the first one I read, it might have been this one actually! However, I did find that her books tended to follow the same basic plot but I'm such a sucker for romance that I couldn't really care less.
Your book review was great and I agreed with pretty much all of it, looking forward to reading more :D
